Control and autonomy: the benefits of a Li-ION battery for the VR-X

dpv batteria al litio

DPVs are not all the same and different models are designed with specific characteristics to adapt to the varied needs of individual divers, ranging from recreational to highly technical applications, from short range dives to extended cave expeditions.

The materials used and construction methods influence the achievable depths, and the motor determines the maximum speed, but the power supply is literally the pulsing heart of every underwater scooter, bringing life to a work of advanced engineering, carefully designed down to the smallest details.

The battery’s capacity to store energy determines the autonomy of the DPV, and thus both the distance that can be travelled during a dive and the time required for recharging back at base.

Significant autonomy is obviously necessary for more professional applications, but it is also highly valued by experienced diving enthusiasts who want freedom to explore the amazing underwater world without requiring the most extreme performance levels typical of long range or highly technical applications.

VR-X is the SUEX DPV developed explicitly to satisfy the needs of more adventurous divers, while maintaining a format compatible with recreational use.

VR-X offers all the design features that distinguish the other SUEX DPVs, including a charge indicator to keep constant track of residual autonomy, a patented closure system without clips or screws, a speed variator for controlling propeller rotation rate, and a Proplock propeller, which can be released and refitted underwater without the need for tools or other separate elements.

However, what really distinguishes the VR-X is its Li-ION battery, offering a capacity of 512 Wh for dives as long as 150 minutes at cruising speed, or 100 minutes at top speed, as well as an external charging system, unique in the current SUEX DPV range.

The choice of lithium ion (Li-ION) provides high energy density for extended autonomy. These batteries also have a low propensity for self-discharging and memory effects, resulting in longer battery life. Another advantage is fast charging, which can restore DPVs to 100% power in a maximum of six hours.

Last but not least in importance is the option of controlling both the motor and battery using the Calypso App. It can be downloaded to access a wide range of interesting information about your DPV and enable better equipment management and greater control over dives. Connecting the battery to the Calypso App requires nothing more than opening a Bluetooth connection!
